Common MIME types

Multipurpose Internet Mail Extensions or MIME type gives information about the nature and format of a document, file, or assortment of bytes.
The value "text/plain" is the default value for textual files and this implies a human readable document, non-binary.

Conversely "application/octet-stream" is the default value for all other cases including the unknown.

IANA is the official registry of MIME media types and maintains a list of all the official MIME types.
